About Us
BuyerRank is an independent product research site for shoppers in the United States. We publish buying guides and comparison articles for physical products — the kind of purchase where there are forty options, every one of them has four stars, and none of the listings tell you what actually matters.
Our job is to narrow that list down to a handful of honest recommendations and explain why each one is on it.
Why we started
Most “best of” lists online are the same ten bestsellers reordered. They tell you a product is popular, which you already knew, and stop there. What they never tell you is who the product is wrong for.
We think a recommendation is only useful when it comes with its limits attached. A chest freezer that is excellent in a heated garage can be a bad buy in an unheated one. A stroller that folds beautifully can be too heavy for someone lifting it into a car every day. That is the part we try to get right.
How we research a product
We are a small editorial team, and we are straightforward about our method. We do not claim to lab-test every product we write about — when a recommendation is based on research rather than hands-on use, we say so in the article.
1. We work out what the buying decision actually turns on
Before looking at a single product, we identify the two or three specifications that separate a good purchase from a regret in that category — capacity, noise level, compatibility, power draw, the dimension people measure wrong. Everything else is secondary.
2. We build a candidate list from the whole category
We start wide: current models from established brands, newer entrants, and the options that keep appearing in owner discussions. We then remove anything discontinued, poorly supported, or sold without a clear warranty.
3. We read the reviews people leave after month three
First-week reviews measure packaging. We pay far more attention to reviews written months later, because that is where durability problems, noise complaints, and customer-service failures show up. We look at patterns across many reviews, never at one dramatic review in isolation.
4. We compare specifications against the manufacturer’s own documentation
Marketplace listings are frequently wrong about dimensions, capacity and materials. Where we can, we verify against the manufacturer’s specification sheet or manual.
5. We assign each pick a role, not a score out of ten
Rather than crowning one winner, we label our picks by who they suit — best overall, best for small spaces, best on a tight budget, best if you need X. That way the article works for readers with different constraints.
6. We revisit and update
Product lines change and models get discontinued. We return to our guides and update them, and when a recommendation changes we say what changed and why.
What we will not do
- We will not take payment for a ranking position or a favorable review.
- We will not let a brand see an article before it is published.
- We will not quote prices as if they were fixed — prices change constantly, so we ask you to check the retailer for the current price.
- We will not pretend to have tested something we have only researched.
- We will not hide the fact that we earn commission. It is disclosed on every article and explained in full on our Affiliate Disclaimer page.
How we are funded
BuyerRank is free to read and carries no paywall. We are funded by affiliate commissions: when a reader follows one of our links to a retailer and buys something, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to the reader. As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
That funding model only works if readers trust the recommendations, which is precisely why we are strict about the two being kept apart.
Who writes here
Articles on BuyerRank are written and edited by the BuyerRank editorial team, a small group of writers and researchers who specialise in consumer products for the US market. Every guide is reviewed by a second person before publication, and any article that recommends a product carries the date it was last checked.
